Nitin Bhayana , Director, Interiors Espania, on the furniture company's brush with Bollywood

How were you associated with Lakshya ?

Unlike Bhoot , for which did the complete interiors of the flat, in Lakshya , we did only Hrithik's room. I got a call from the producer of the film and was briefed about Hrithik's character, and what Farhan really wanted to portray before Hrithik's character sets off for Kargil. The shooting was at a farmhouse in Delhi; it was convenient. I never thought Bollywood would make a difference, but our sales have increased; our new Wenge range is sold out. The range was launched two weeks ago and has nothing to do with the film.

What is this range all about?

The Wenge range of furniture is fashionable globally. It was a success at the Milan fair in April, where we launched it. It's a luxury range that comes in a deep chocolate colour and open grain finish. Our collection comprises Wenge bedrooms, but we will launch a living room range shortly. We have also introduced designs in leather furniture alongside lighting, bed linen and other accessories. What stands out in Wenge is that it is a veneer, ie, the natural bark of wood, and the designs rely almost entirely on the quality of the veneer and the chocolate polish wood finish.

Have you expanded?

We have opened a new store in Kolkata. Since most of our stores in Kolkata are out of the city, we want to experiment with one in a downtown spot; this one is on Shakespeare Sarani.

After Gurgaon, Delhi, Ludhiana, what made you to think of Kolkata as your next destination?

We have had numerous clients from Kolkata in the last three years, whom we have been serving from our flagship store in Delhi. Also, the city has transformed lately —it has become more contemporary. People are looking for world-class products and open to spending on luxury products.

What's next after Lakshya ?

Hopefully, more films and more ranges! I am excited about the new products we have lined up for the rest of the year. Our flagship store in Gurgaon has just been redone and is looking its best ever. I think it's going to be an exciting year ahead.
